Only so much this Cat can Take

from Shuffling Deckchairs by Steve BLaque

about

Only so Much this Cat can Take was definitely a reaction to a divorce taking place with a good friend of mine. Now he is Greek, but come to think of it....he also doesn't have body hair...perhaps my 'mom' was right! It was a total snow job. I had known him for years and he was being taken to the cleaners and it stunk. I was watching a good man go down. At the same time there was a judicial reaction out of the States whereby a judge had made a comment that he thought he could no longer tolerate lies being fed to him by lawyers representing women in divorce cases. Alongside this I'd also just watched Oliver Stone's JFK and was taken entirely by the "Southerness'' of the whole film (obviously it's a southern story) and the line ''How much this Cat can take'' came from that. The song wasn't meant to hold back. I wasn't trying to win votes from female listeners, many who are wonderful people, but it was on behalf of my friend saying, ''yah, but gee whizzikinz' there's also a lot o' shrews out there' just after money n' bringing a man down....oh yeah make no mistake, it was written with that intent.......

lyrics

Only so Much this Cat can Take
lyric n' music S.BLaque

verse
how preposterous
for me to wait
ms. divorcay
kinda sealin' her fate

screw the law
this judge and be hogtied
this uppity plaintive s case
like a dead dog died

day in day out
i cop the le femme lies
but all hail your honor
this gold digger's gonna roast and fry

pre chorus
come on school teachers
come on you tradies
come on you office workers
come on you staties

chorus
we've been lead by the nose
with this feminist bait
hook line and sinker
but now
but now
but now
there's only so much this cat can take
there's only so much this cat can take
