My Lair

from My Lair by Steve BLaque

about

This track was written lyrically in Broadford Victoria and was written after the initial progression had been recorded at Plutonic Lab. There was the basis of a song, but it involved moving through 2 different progressions. Initially i had written the music sometime during 2012 and for 2 years it had remained a jam pattern at some clubs I was playing at in Beijing. Being lucky enough to see a Melbourne performance of Hilltop Hoods from Australia i had decided that the track was fitting more of a half spoken sung kind've idea, almost taking me back to my own very early days when unable to sing i'd just do poetry over my pieces..kind've miss those days, anyways that's pretty much the background of the track, with the opening lines coming straight from a kitchen jam with Kelly playing saucepans and me playing guitar and the two of us singing about the angry bird in the backyard. You could try and put all kind's of shit in your head about what this lyric could be about, but i'm telling you straight from the horses mouth that it's about one serious angry little bird and his claim to his territory.....

lyrics

My Lair

my lair

fuck off
yer on my turf
who the hell
gave you the right
to walk on my earth
n' didn't yu know
for what it's worth
that nothin' good
can come from
this ungodly birth

so my man
i see yu
puttin' yerself out there
on the line
but i'd like to know
the color o' yer corner
is it red or green
or blue like mine

yeah
so wait up
that ain't the half of it
n' this here's a battle
to stay alive
and as i do finely recollect
that man
roberto duran
straight up
slugged it out
panamanian pride

n' yu know it might just be me
but if i were yu
i'd back me up some
and take a look around
coz this here's some repugnant shit
n' yer goin' over the same old ground

chorus

my lair my lair
you're goin' over the same old ground

this is my patch
this is my lair
this is my ring
this is my spacce

yer askin' me to buy yer shit
where's the reciprocity
you got a house ways out o' order
and that's pretty fucking plain to see
my dear adversary on that point
we do agree

so let's look hard @ yer solution
and alls anyone sees is hiccups n' absolutism
without nothin' concrete no change within
just a value of a buck n' evolution

ok, so let me get this fuckin'straight
what i done built up with my bare hands
in your eyes ain't nothin' more than invasionary land
and my friend right there..on that very fuckin' point you don't understand

n' yu know it might just be me
but if i were yu
i'd back me up some
and take me a looky'round
coz this here's some repugnant shit
n' yer goin' over the same old ground

chorus

my lair my lair
you're goin' over the same old ground

credits

from My Lair, released July 19, 2015
a couple o' credits on this particularly to John Costelloe who was not enjoying the greatest of times as he was in the middle of selling a house or relocating to another place and at the same time i was giving him shitloads o' pressure to come up with a saxophone line....this was recorded in Manila not in any kind've studio but mainly through a phone ...and then sent on over to me to get it right....this was one 3 tracks we did in this way...real kind've fly by the seat o' yer pants stuff...also a shout to Kelly who was really supportive of me 'building the song in the first place.....
