Just Too Late

from Shadow by Steve Blaque

about

another one of my tracks invented while working and simply drifting into the make believe world of a guy who while he was wanting to declare his love for a former girlfriend, really didn't believe in it, or the relationship; ostensibly looking for excuses and a way out. i think many people have been in this situation. the relationship i was in at the time was with work and it was an imaginative journey of masking the various excuses i could think of for not 'arriving at the office'.

Lyrics

Just Too Late

i made the stop
jumped johnston 59
just to see you
leave on # 58
go the other way

and i called you up
though it ran out
and i messaged you
but you'd just powered off
you just powered off yeah

and i wrote you
fixing two stamps
n' i posted the letter
but i missed the deadline
i missed the deadline

n' e'vrythin' i do
i was just too late
n' i everythin' i do
i was just too late
n' e'rythin' i do
i was just too late
i was just too late

took a flight
even sat in coach
but heavy snow
meant we were delayed
we were delayed

and i jumped a train
even took a sleeper
but we were derailed
i didn't make the ETA
didn't make the ETA

n' e'vrythin' i do
i was just too late
n' i everythin' i did
i was just too late
n' e'rythin' i do
i was just too late
i was just too late

so i wrote a song
just to sing to you
to make it personal
and say that we're all through
that we're all through

but the radio station
didn't play the track
two days later
they sent it on back
they sent it on back

and i hired a car
a hatchback
and drove through the night
but wild bears closed the road
they closed the road

n' e'vrythin' i do
i was just too late
n' in everythin' i do
i was just too late
n' e'rythin' i do
i was just too late
n' e'vrythin' i did
i was just too late now
n' e'rythin' i do
i was just too late
n' e'vrythin' i do
i was just too late
n' e'rythin' i did
i was just too late
i was just, just too late
i was just too late
i was just too late
e'rythin i do
i was just too late
e'rythin i did
i was just too late
e'rythin i do
i was just too late
e'rythin i did
i was just too late
oh i was just too late
i was just too late
i was just too late
and e'rythin i do
i was just, i was just
i was just
too late

Additional Information

Just too Late was born completely in the studio during rehearsals for shows that i regularly do in Beijing where i'm based and have been based for some time.

Simple story of a guy trying to find ways (or not) of quitting from his relationship without realizing the obvious twist.

The lyric was written completely standing up playing with my guitar while i had a notepad and pencil beside me. i think there's a photograph of the environment it was written in. I would imagine from start to finish the song took about 30 minutes to compose, but then it took much longer to record and produce.

The last verse has a back story and that that concerns a long conversation with New York Steve and i discussing the various possibilities of things that could close the road....let's just say it was a lot of fun backin' n' forthin' over one calamity after another ...finally it was 'wild bears' that got the nod....

it's my first single in a while, perhaps the 2nd this year and it as well as the other are all part of the upcoming album Palookaville which was originally skedded for 2018, but looks like rolling over into 2019.

Credits for the single.
All artwork and design Levan Stanes. Original illustration by Liu Yan Hua. Special thanks to Plutonic Lab from Melbourne Australia for ongoing support. Steve Cahn for his spiritual support, love of sport and boxing. the many conversations with both these two concerns have made it possible to get the songs out.

Musically the song was performed completely by myself including the following instrumentation, an Epiphone Chet Atkins guitar and Fender Precision Bass, and some midi keyboards. drums were programmed by myself.

The single was recorded at Forbidden City Studios in Beijing, though now trading as LLargoland Studios of St Marys Tasmania as part of Darktrunk Records.
