It Ain't Very Svelt

from Shuffling Deckchairs by Steve BLaque

/

about

It ain't very Svelt was totally written and recorded at Ice FLow in Sydney. The song, which I'll leave to your imagination to determine what it is about, was a departure from where i had been going and was definitely built around using samples combined with some analogue instruments, but it was the way that the samples were taking a more dominant role in the behaviour of the song. I believe in this song there were no actual ''chords' played, there's no discernible melody and in fact it was a return to a style that I was messing with in my brief flirtation with musical success in the early 80's and that was with a strong groove and spoken word. For this song two vital contributors were Catherine Webb a Sydney based Jazz singer who had beautiful tone and a terrific guitarist known to me over the years, Todd Ellis. If i was putting a band together in Sydney he'd be my go to for sure.
