Fkt Like Icarus

about

as boys myself and my immediate brother would play 'test matches int he back yard' test match is a 'cricketing term for a game over 5 days that has bats balls and piitches and then just about everything from the British Empire thrown in....None of this has anything to do with the song, but that to play in the matches you had to be able to bat left and right handed and bowl left and right handed. To me this was insane we were both doin' shit that would serve us to finally do something together later in life because I like to think it was about being fluid enough to roll with punches. I think he'd played the wait game ...perhaps waiting for me to really have something to 'grab a hold of' before throwing himself in and sayin' ''hey listen steve blaque, I've got this lyric for yu''...(he wouldn't call me steve blaque, but has another name for me...anyways the lyric came in..it was born of our childhood memories and Greek mythology.....you know in growing up we were Germans for a while, then British, then our mother went on a bent and we were Jewish and finally I think we just rolled over to the idea that we were greeks.....(Despite my insistence that at 18 I still couldn't grow a mustache or sideburns...and had 0 chest hair......whatever you put that with our father working at the airways and to me The Evil Underling's lyric made perfect sense. I instantly fell in love with it. The chorus I remember was written in 2008 but it took another 2 years by early 2010 for the song to come together and formulate into what you hear here. Again I was really trynig to get better results from my work and pushing my level of playing and particularly composing and getting heaps o' samples and synth shit into the track......these days I just love playing the song solo...it 'has a ring to it''...and hopefully some o' that comes out in the mix that you have here...

Lyrics
Fucked like Icarus
words The Evil Underling & C. Terry
music Steve Blaque

Sometimes weight
Of thoughts
Is the damage done
Holding me down
tethered
Before takeoff
A song unsung

Belief
gives me
transparent wings
Negative process
Has me in check
Grounding me
Like A noose
round my neck

I need a lift
Not easy
being involved
I fly alone
Solo now
Problem solved

To soar and weave
Thru the clouds
held in contempt
by earth
and crowds I am exempt

(pre chorus)
now i'm flyin'
yeah i'm flyin yeah
(chorus)
fucked like icarus
too close to the sun
But check out my tan
I'm having
some fun
Trying to fly

listening
to you
I"d never leave
The ground
Dragged
by your concerns
not knowing
the sound

Of Trying to fly

Release me
No longer a slave see
to your
Differing rhythm
In my image
I bathe
I am free

(pre chorus)
now i'm flyin'
yeah i'm flyin yeah

(chorus)
fucked like icarus
too close to the sun
But check out my tan
I'm having
some fun
Trying to fly
